Jure Cerkovnik started to play guitar when he was 7 years old, and at the age of 13 he already recorded for RTV Slovenija (National Radio and Television).
After obtaining Master degree with honors at the »Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst« (University for Music and Performing Arts) in the class of Alvaro Pierri, he is currently living in Zurich, Switzerland, where he teaches as an Assistant of Prof. Anders Miolin at Zurich University of the Arts and regularly gives concerts around Europe.

He performed his first solo recital when he was 16 years old and until now, he performed and/or has given masterclasses in different music festivals in Europe such as Arnold Schoenberg Centre Vienna, Forum Wien, Vienna Guitar Festival MDW, Gesellschaft für Musiktheater Wien (Austria), Sarajevo Int. Guitar Festival, Vaclaf Classic Festival (Bosnia and Herzegowina), Postojna Int. Guitar Festival (Slovenia), National Hall, Dom OSBiH Sarajevo (Bosnia), Academia Philharmonicorum, Cankarjev Dom, National Museum (Slovenia),…
His debut with orchestra was in year 2008, when he performed as a soloist with symphony orchestra »Simfonika« Joachim Rodrigo’s »Fantasia para un Gentilhombre«. The concert took place in I. Cankar Hall in Vrhnika (Slovenia). In 2012 he played as a solist with the Sarajevo philharmonic orchestra in Bosnia. With conductor Ralf Kircher he played “Concierto de Aranjuez” from Joaquin Rodrigo.
Jure has been honored with highest prizes at many competitions in Europe such as:

His guitar repertoire is very diverse. He performs classical works of all periods from renaissance, baroque up until modern period of 20th century music, Spanish and Slovenian music. In the moment he includes also some music of Balkan composers which is rhythmically and characteristically very interesting as well as great amount of chamber music in different formations.
